Gotham City is this week's venue for the latest version of The Marginally
Exciting Adventures of Dobster -- Roadtrip 2006.
Is there any place on earth like it? I think not.
It really is all you ever heard it to be and more.
New York City is still something that must be experienced to be fully
appreciated. Do it at least once in your lifetime and you'll know what I'm
talking about.
Oh, by the way, bring cash when you come. Lots of it that is.
The toll is now $9.00 to cross the Verrazano Bridge over the Narrows and on to
Staten Island. $6.00 to cross the Gee-Dubya-Bee (George Washington Bridge)
$4.50 to go from the Bronx to Queens via the Triboro Bridge. And then there are
the tunnels and their tolls. And that's just what it costs to just get into the city, or move from one part of the city to the next if you are traveling by car, for example.
Buy your gas in Jersey (check the price and you'll see why; just remember that there aint no self-service in NJ, stay in your car and let the man pump it) and take in Manhattan for at least one day and a night. You'd be hard pressed to find another city on earth with
a pulse as quick as this one.
Come into Manhattan and you feel like you're riding on the back of a huge beast with a Type A personality . . . and it on speed at that.
The pace in this city is pulse quickening and exhausting and exhilarating . . .
and at times frustrating
I swear, sometimes the laid back country boy in me makes me want to run out into the
middle of Broadway and scream at the top of my voice, WILL Y'ALL ALL JUST SLOW
DOWN!
But truth be told, even though I feel like a fish out of water here, most of
the time, like the man once sang,
I (just) want to be a part of it, New York, New York.
Warm wishes to all from Gotham City,
bd
