TheBanyanTree: The Age of Reason

It’s hard to believe it’s already January 21. What happened to Christmas
and New Year’s? It seems like it was just yesterday when we were
celebrating and now it’s January 21. January is two thirds over and
February is speeding into view. Oh, boy.

We’ve had two showings of our house this week and we have two showings
scheduled for today. At this rate, we should get a buyer soon. The law of
averages will catch up with us finally. I’m keeping my fingers and toes
crossed. It’s been a long haul and is continuing to be, but I feel we’re
getting there. Ray and I are so ready to begin packing and making
arrangements to move. I gave my real estate agent a boost by referring one
of my co-workers to him. It’s all about networking, isn’t it?

Our non-winter weather is continuing. We had a little bit of snow on
Monday. It was a nuisance snow, a couple of quick inches and it was done,
but it created havoc on the freeways the next morning, because some of it
melted as it hit the pavement and then the temps dropped, and ramps and
bridge decks became areas of glazed ice. One of my co-workers was involved
a serious accident while driving to work, but she’s OK, although her vehicle
certainly isn’t.

But the weather’s been so nice that the four of us (the Sex in the City
group, but with no sex, because we’re in our 50s with one in her 30s, so we’
re just In the City) were able to take our daily walks really every day this
week, including twice on Friday. Our work building is part of a complex
built around a large pond and there is a walking path around the pond. The
path equals a mile, so it’s a good walk, not too long and not too short, but
a good walk to take for a break.

I received my Creative Memories order from last Saturday’s party. I ordered
trimmers and croppers and I’m anxious to use them on my current scrapbook,
but I’ll have wait until next week as we’ll be celebrating my youngest
grandson’s fifth birthday this weekend.

It’s so hard to believe that like time flying by, this little boy’s growing
like a weed. I can remember the day he was born and now he’s already five,
and will begin kindergarten this year. He loves to joke and tease and still
enjoys his dinosaurs, although he digs through the toys at my house to find
my son’s old WWF (remember Hulk Hogan?) wrestlers. Poochie has a heart as
big as the universe. And he loves sweets, which I hope won’t become a
problem for him as he gets older. And he LOVES to swim.

So he’s five. We’ll celebrate this weekend with a trip to an indoor water
park and dinner and just having fun together.

We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a
list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance
the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for
flaws, but for potential.
