Yessiree, Bob! Writing in the King's English is like standing at
attention. Using slang is "At ease."
Often I catch myself leaving out a word here and there. Writing
instructors tell you to ignore mistakes as you write. Write rapidly
and then go back over the manuscript to correct the misspellings,
typos, skipped words, awkward expressions, and a thousand and one
other boo boos that give writers ulcers. I can't do that. I have to
edit as I go, even though it takes me forever to complete a story.
(Already I have read and reread the above a half dozen times at
least.) Even so, I don't always catch my goof-ups.
I'm a slow writer and also a slow reader. Okay, I admit it - I'm slow
upstairs. Another crazy thing about me is that when I'm looking for a
certain item in a store, say a particular spice, I will see every
spice in the rack six times before I spot the one I want.
Why is that?
