TheBanyanTree: Inane but fun

Relative to the way things are in this world, I have nothing big to tell.
No recent major traumas (well, there's the one, but it's actually kind
of remote from me, while deeply affecting those I dearly love), and no
world-changing events.

My hubby did not get either of the jobs he had applied for at his place
of business. No, don't start sending condolences yet, because it has
turned out to be a blessing! Because we now know we won't have to move
anywhere, we have started re-doing our nearly 20 year old house.

It still has the original upstairs carpet from when it was built. The
original owners were smokers. Can you say eeeEEEEeeeyyyeeww? I thought
you could! Same vinyl in kitchen and bathroom. Same old furniture we
moved into it 10 years ago. Air ducts have never been cleaned, to my
knowledge, and it still had the same paint we put on the walls when we
first bought it.

Most of that has changed, and what hasn't, will soon!

We have new furniture - a lovely matching sofa, chair, and ottoman set,
with new end tables. A new computer work station which matches the end
tables is on the horizon (just waiting for a floor sample to arrive at
the showroom so we can confirm that it is *just* what we need). The
kitchen floor gets replaced on Monday. Carpet will be replaced as soon
as the dealer gets the samples we ordered and we can pick a color. The
walls in the living room and hall have been painted (and now the boys and
I have respiratory infections... hmm...). New "decorator" lightswitch
and outlet plates have been purchased, and I've even gotten one of them
installed! Hubby is picking up new air vent covers even now. There are
new sheers on the windows, with new blinds and valence to follow after we
pick a carpet color. New wrought-iron and wood TV stand coming soon,
once we get one of the drawers from the endtables over to the furniture
store (not the same one where we got the tables, obviously) to match the
stain.

And that's just the living room and kitchen!

Next is the master bedroom, but I think I need to finish the kitchen
before I start thinking too hard about that. We *have* picked out the
furniture, though. :o)

Ah well, enough chit-chat. Back to removing quarter-round and mouldings
in the kitchen, and cleaning under them...

<AH...ACHOO!>
<...sniffle...>
