dust motes in a god's eye,
enameled emblems of the long light fading
burnt orange brooches fly
in lazy spirals modeled from leaf smoke.

tilting solstice sun holds
a faint shade of summer's brutal heat
bug duties fly before the cold
driven frantic by faint heralds of frost

blundering, in hair and faces
bedizen windows and warm house walls
crawling into secret places
a buttoned jewel, bleak winter's marvel

fly on, fly on and cloud
the noonday sun with time's business.
