For the Old Man no longer on the Mountain

	http://www.nhparks.state.nh.us/ParksPages/franconianotch/oldman.html

the old man's face has fallen, fallen
fallen down the mountain, fallen
fallen in the water, drowning
fading into memory, fading
gone when we are dead and buried

mother prairie's plowed up, plowed up
plowed up, planted then plowed over
plowed again and then paved over
paved into a lot for parking
paved and covered prairie sleeping

all the water's burning, burning
burning in the rainclouds falling
burning in the bedrock deeply
deeply in the lakebeds boiling
boiling bare the ocean's bottom

the mountain's bones are bleeding, bleeding
bleeding into dump trucks digging
digging mountain bones and blasting
blasted and then hotly hammered
hammered and then tossed away

time will make another mountain
crack the pavement, crush the creatures
rain will fall and rust the hammers
rain will quench the water's fires
rain will fall upon the prairie.
