NEW ARRIVAL

I made a poem. Not a great poem. Not even a very good poem. But, after the
long dark months of the interregnum, the first new poem in a new house
deserves some small recognition on its arrival. Perhaps a five gun salute.
Or four-and-a-half.

CHOOSING

In the pearl-shaped light
at the far edge of the day
bats sweep, tumble and turn,
greet the stars, aerobatically,

and, beside the window, a TV
whispers glitter-bright commercial promise,
offers Jesus for nine ninety-nine.
I shall stay with the bats.
