I have some stuff like that - left for dead, refurbished in an afternoon,
still working today.

Use it up,
wear it out,
make it do,
or do without.

No, I didn't grow up during the depression, buy my Dad did, and it affected
him deeply. Apparently, it rubbed off on me to some extent.
