I've always used the birthing/dying (b/d) method to tell waxing or 
waning.  If waxing, or birthing, then and like the small "b", the round 
part (i.e., the illuminated part) is on the right.  If it's waxing, or 
dying, then like the small "d", the round part is on the left.  I've 
never noticed that this changed whether I was lying down with my feet 
pointing north or south.  But of course I'll have to try this post 
haste. Unless, like the Woofess, are pullin' my leg.
