We don't dare look off to the side, for fear of showing that we are
"leaking".

Gets me the same way.  When my step daughter was in the Centenary Choir,
they sang a medley of the four services songs and asked the vets in the
audience from each service to stand during their service song.  The older I
get, the leakier I get. 

The caissons go rolling along.
