I ran a 5 mile race at the local Creekbend Vineyard on Saturday. It was
very hot and there was one stinking hill after another.

They say that victory comes with pain?
That winning hurts more than loss?
Thou muscles ache, the lungs afire
You wish that you had rid a hoss.

Yet is not sweet the prize of wine?
The flush of pride, you did your best.
The fresh clear air, the friends you met
the lovely feeling of evening rest.

Hills and dust will not defeat
the heart withstanding all the stress
nor sting of wasp nor weary bones
you won the race and nothing less.
