Responding---months later. I think that's what's meant by an "English
garden," that rich mix of utility and ornament.  The smell of ripening
peppers adds a real depth to the sweet rose.

Ha!  But I do plant edibles all around an in my flower garden--herbs 
and chives and I've even been known to stick a pepper or a tomato right 
in the flower garden.  Hey...they bloom and then the fruit, and it's 
all lovely!
