It takes some time for the grief to seep
down from the intellect into the heart
and what makes the heart ache so, anyway? 
whose unseen hands crush it until you fear
it might kill you or wish it could like that other one
the feeling of mutilation like a cannonball passed through
your middle and leaves you cruelly walking like a living dead
with a huge, gaping, ragged, bloody hole where a lot of you used to be
why doesn't this kill me, this pervasive, omnipotent pain which leaves 
me barely
breathing,
