Dad always was a jolly joker. In the end he got the next to last laugh on us all once again. He had always said he wanted his ashes scattered off the Blind Pass bridge, the small cut of water separating Sanibel and Captiva Islands off the coast of Fort Myers, Florida in the Gulf of Mexico. So Dad finally does his last dance with the devil, we have him cremated and the whole family such as it is gathers at Mom's house dressed in our finest and we caravan off to Blind Pass. This is shortly after Hurricane Charlie had come and done his business up the SW coast of Florida. None of us had been out to the islands since Charlie had visited so we were all a bit taken aback to discover that Blind Pass had been filled in, there was no water flowing, in fact if we had tossed Dad off the bridge he would have landed on several tourists shelling on the freeshly churned up beach that now resided under the bridge. Nothing for it but for me as the eldest child to take my shoes and socks off, empty my pockets and wade out to the second sandbar and let Dad go out in the Gulf. As I was in my Sunday best suit I could hear him laughing at me as I waded out, waved at the rest of the family and let him go in the outgoing tide.

Jolly joker that he was, I think I got the last laugh tho.

I peed in the water at the same time I let him go, that water was cold ... that'll teach him.

RedWolfe ... delurking long enough to wave at those who may remember him and go back to hiding ... be well y'all ...
