TheBanyanTree: Fall Traditions

Traditionally, my falls are a time of change. Like leaves falling off the
trees, my job responsibilities generally drop drastically. A couple of years
ago, in the fall, I was cut to half time. Half time! The company was waiting
for investors and running out of money, and some people were let go, and I
was cut to half time. By the time December rolled around I'd given my notice
that I after January 1st, they could just count me out. They did, and I
left, but then they started calling me to come in and "consult," which I
did, and I made quite a bit of money off of them as a contractor before I
moved away.

This company is going through a merger. While exciting for the company, I
was not particularly looking forward to it. For one thing, a lot more
clients to manage. For another, an increase in my blood pressure. For
another, a lot more clients to manage, and I'm not the one setting up the
new ones, so I'd have no control over what comes to my department. Someone
else wants to be manager, someone with CPA after their name. Okay. I can
understand that. And I say to my bosses, "Okay. Let me just get out of the
way."

And so I'm getting out of the way. I love this job, for the most part, but I
also love being my own boss, so I'm going back to doing that. I love my
bosses, but not enough to work for peanuts. Besides, the work would be so
unsatisfactory at that level. This is all good. A time for change.

In my family, I'm known as the one who can't hold on to a job.

I don't care. I love change, and I need a new challenge.
