TheBanyanTree: His Blue Eyes

When I first saw him
the first time in years
It was my grandfather lying there
and then some others of us in his face at different angles
my mother's nose, my cousin's mouth
His hair still red, dark as rust, white where mine is
his skin still smooth, pale as porcelain, like my mother's and mine
and when I looked closely, I saw just him as I dabbed his lips with balm
and he grimaced, it was just him and
the scar on his forehead, that was just him, but when he opened his eyes
and looked at me, strong, steady and with
purpose
his blue eyes
were mine
