   A good friend quoted his grandmother's maxim: "Cheer up, the
worst is yet to come."  We erupted in laughter.  Edith Bunker
wouldn't have said it better.. 

   I have this feeling of precariousness.  Sort of like being
in a playground, perched on a domino on a house of cards on a 
bowling ball.  This feeling is usually the result of stepping
outside my ordinary quite stable life, through a car ad, and on
to the latest very real outrage or threat in The News.  Waay 
more than I can handle.  I pat one arm with another, look for a 
life somewhere nearby, and pretend all those big dangerous 
boulders from hell set tumbling from high places don't find 
their way to my playground.
