TheBanyanTree: Finally, A Real Summer

We've finally had some temperatures in the last few days that remind me of the
summers of yesteryear.

For most of my life I can remember summers in which we would have temperatures
in the 100s at least once in that summer period.

Not so for our area for the last 7 years.

The past week was the first week in over 7 years that we hit 100 degrees F at
least once in a summer. Sounds like "normal" is possibly trying to make a
return.

Our daytime summer temps for the last few years have been quite moderate and
wet as well. Back about 7 years ago we were in the throes of a long drought.
A drought that lasted about 4 years. That drought is not even a faded memory
for most of the people that live here.

I remember the water rationing that went into effect. It worked well in that
situation. So well, in fact, that the powers that be decided that it made
sense to conserve water by using the same methods even during the non-drought
years. The powers that be knew that our area would continue to demand more
water from our supplies and they acted in a proactive manner.

And we did.

And we are used to it now.

The area I live in has had its population almost triple in the last 15 years.
That's quite a burden on water resources that are finite (aren't they all,
since there's no more water on earth -- or no more less -- than there was when
the likes of wooly mammoth and other long gone species made for common dinner
fare on our tables)

It just makes sense to not waste things, doesn't it?
