TheBanyanTree: Sampler

The shapely box, unadorned, no shiny gold
paper.
Inside rests a tray with all sorts of
sweets.
Cream filled,
chewy centers and nuts.
Fruit flavored, marshmallowy
dark chocolate and milk.
Tempting.
A selection like never
before.

Many are bitten into, in two.
Nibbled
around the edges or a big bite through
to the center.
Beckoning to be devoured and
begging
to be tried, even once.
*especially once*
Calling to me to reach in and taste
lick, bite
enjoy, devour.
Way too often, way too hard to ignore.

Ragged edges, the box is
opened
paper roses
disintegrated, the ribbon lost luster.
How sad
to see half eaten
tried and discarded used up
bits.
Some quite good and
some
barely worth the effort.

How to top the box?
How to ignore when a desire for
sweet
races through my viens and
pulses?
The blood rushes through my head with a
deafening roar.
Sugar rush,
chocolate around my mouth, bright filling
stains my teeth.
Heart.

Is there another tray under
this one?
How many varieties must be
consumed,
how many chances taken and
risked?
No gold, shiny paper,
sweets too sweet.
Stolen and unwarranted
candy.
