We had a similar little contest in the Tree about five years ago, Sharon -
Worst Opening Line Of The Worst Novel or some such thing.
One of my entries:
"The church bulletin gave me the clue I was looking for - 'due to the fire
at St. Elmo's, Saturday's dance will be held at St. Vitus' - I knew then
that my client was innocent, and that somehow, the murderous deacon at Our
Lady of Perpetual Motion had to be stopped."
