TheBanyanTree: The Perils of Ecuador

On Saturday, I was chatting to some club members who had returned
from the World Shoot in Ecuador. The world shoot was held there a
few months ago.
I said, that seeing it was still the hot season, wasn't it
unbearably hot there? In the daytime it is hot, I was told, but only
the mid 30's (round about 90F) but could get quite humid. However,
about 8pm it got freezing cold very suddenly, so that you could go
into a restaurant for dinner sweating profusely from the heat and
walk outside after dinner and freeze yer wotsits off. The sudden
cold at night is attributable to the Andes Mts..apparently cold air
from the mts rolls down the slopes at night which causes the sudden
change.
One of the other interesting things about Ecuador is that it is a
very dangerous place! You could not go out on your own at night, or
you would risk being mugged or worse. You have to go in groups and
you have to have an armed guard type person with you or go packed
yourself. A number of the dudes carried their guns...loaded.
Another interesting thing is the ladies of the night (also gentlemen
of the night are available too!). They cost $60 US per day and that
is for 24 hours. However, apparently they are wonderful. One of the
Aussie team hired one and she carried all his equipment during the
day round the match and gave him shoulder massages before each
shooting stage. She also took the dude and some of our contingent
out to the markets and made sure they bought quality stuff and
bargained for them etc
During one day of the shoot, some black hawk helicopters came over
and caused all the targets to get blown down etc. Apparently they
are whisper quiet scary thingies, that you doan realise is there
till too late. Our Aussie fellas was not impressed with them and
reckoned all competitors should have aimed upwards and shot the
bleeders!
One of the funniest sights they saw was a female cop wearing a
gun..well..that is pretty normal, BUT she was wearing really high
stiletto heels. The fellas of course wondered how she could function
with them..like if she hadda chase a baddie she would be really
stuffed. They tried to take her photograph but she wouldn't be in
it!
