LOOKING WITH THE EYES OF LOVE
She needed someone, anyone, to look beneath the surface, beyond the outer shell to the heart of her*to the soul of her. No one ever did. They only saw the outside.
When she was young, they were all clamoring at her door for her attentions. They all wanted her. The only problem was, once they had her they realized she was not the way she looked. She wanted a home and children. She wanted commitment. All they ever saw was what they wanted to see. Some hot, sexy gal that was going to get their rocks off. Someone as empty as they were. But it wasn't so. It wasn't so then and it wasn't so now.
Now she added age to the unfortunate package and a bit of extra weight. Gray hair certainly was not a plus and though the wrinkles were few, they were still there. Crows feet at the eyes, creases in her neck and crackles in the tops of her hands. Her fingers were no longer slender boasting of cat-like red-polished nails, but looked worn away from work. The knuckles slightly swelled.
Those hands had nursed a lot of sick babies and wiped many a sweated brow. Her heart was full of love and her soul full of caring, but no one saw it. They only saw the outside. They never thought to look at her through the eyes of love.
