old dogs need a home to go to
warm nights by a stove or fire
grizzled cats a dark garage
a cool perch on a midnight tire

fur or fin or fancy feathers
seeking shelter from the storm
out of wind, and out of weathers
out of harm's way, safe and warm

old hounds need a warm heart's wishes
a head scratch and a knuckle bone
moggies mew their deepest secret - 
no one wants to be alone.
