TheBanyanTree: Dead Computer

Spoonoids:

The other day I was sitting at my monitor reading e-mail from the Tree
when, suddenly, the screen went black except for the large size orange letters
which said, "IT IS NOW SAFE TO SHUT OFF YOUR COMPUTER." As though I had wanted
to. As though I had gone through the shut down routine via the Microsoft
"Start" button, except without the usual hassle.
I knew what had happened. The CPU cooling fan had stopped fanning, and
the CPU overheated. I took the cover off the computer case, turned the power
back on, and sure enough the fan was not running. And I had bought a new fan just
two months ago, the last time my computer went to never land.
When I replaced it that time, I noticed the new fan was making more noise
than it should have. Uh oh. This guy is not going to last long. But it is
working for now, and I'm too lazy to take it back to the store where I bought
it. Until a few days ago when it quit.
I took the defective fan back to Radio Shack, and the lady there swapped
it for a new one, no hassle. But I did remember to take along the original
receipt.
So now I'm back in business with a new, quiet running CPU cooling fan. I
wonder how long it will take me to get around to replacing the cover on the
computer case?

Later, John.
