TheBanyanTree: 2:15 AM Excitement

Due to a fibro flare, getting to sleep tonight was difficult. While I was waiting for the pain & muscle relaxer pills to take effect, I read one of Sue Henry's mysteries. At 2 AM, I brought Lyra inside so she wouldn't wake up the neighborhood.

Then at 2:15 AM, I heard the strangest noise coming from the yard. It sounded like a banshee howling. I got up, put shoes on, gathered a dog lead, a flashlight and my cane and went outside to see who (among the Sibes) was being chewed on or what was making all the racket.

I walked outside to hear the howl again followed by Lyra's bay inside the cabin. I walked down the embankment and under the trees and then up the hill where I saw the Sibes gathered. Lion was the howlee as he and the other Sibes jumped up and circled something in the trees.

When I got there, I shined the light up into the tree and discovered a possum clinging to a branch with six very eager Sibes dancing beneath him. By then Sandy (my best friend who lives in a cabin in the same yard - the Sibes in question are hers) was awake and her Jacks were outside barking along with Pepper and Lyra baying from the cabin.

I hollered at Sandy to put her Jacks back in the house fearful that they might decide to 'help' the Sibes with their catch and get hurt. She couldn't hear me over the noise that the dogs were making so I hurried back to the cabin. Then she got her dogs inside and came back outside.

I started up the split rail step, lost my balance and plopped down on the ground - twisting my left ankle - which I now have wrapped with an ace bandage with some ice on it to keep the swelling down. Sandy walked down to where I was sitting on the gravel and offered to help me get up...I told her to wait until the pain was bearable before I handed her the flashlight and let her help me to my feet and over the top of the split rail.

All is quiet now...don't know if the Sibes managed to get the possum or not...don't care either...just glad that Lion isn't screaming like a banshee!

I've taken another pain pill and will go to bed shortly once my adrenaline has subsided :)
