Time seemed to slow down as a surrealistic kaleidoscope of memories
cascaded through her mind as he carried her up the steps. She
intuitively knew that it was because the cabin threshold was before her
and it symbolized a threshold beyond the mere physical. One of their
countless and lengthy conversations came to the forefront of her
thoughts. He had been so hesitant with his words at the time. Unusually
so. Whenever he was describing something he wanted to do for her, or was
requesting that she do something, he was always so strongly
self-assured. But when he spoke of personal thoughts it seemed foreign
and challenging to him. Not that he let his unease and unfamiliarity
with this type of communication prevent him from sharing what he thought
she needed to know about himself and his life. Actually, it was just the
opposite. His personal demons were to be confronted and vanquished and
he unknowingly made his internal battle and personal resolve very clear.

He was so endearingly careful to assure her that he was in excellent
health. She deeply appreciated the intent behind his words. And she was
so very glad that she could offer him the same gift in return. Wise
people were cautious about such things and the care he took to make her
aware of something so vitally important only deepened her respect for
him. Once that inherently sensitive topic was broached and he was given
the same kind of reassurance from her, it seemed to open a door to his
closely guarded heart.

He reflected on his earlier years, when he was too naive to realize that
a man's mind, body and soul are indelibly intertwined. He was much too
focused on a life of self-gratification to respect his body and soul as
he does now. He learned over the years, through too many fleeting
encounters, that a soul can start to feel empty and tarnished, a mind
can feel jaded, and a body can begin to feel bewilderingly incomplete.
In time, he learned how to protect his soul, challenge his mind and to
respect his body. He finally understood that the three were intended to
be an encompassing celebration of sensuality, to be woven together when
you wait to embrace the tapestry of life with your soulmate.

Unconsciously, he still searched because after awhile being alone began
to quench his spirit, and his body ached for the enticing scent and
gentle touch of a woman. And so one day, one inexplicably quixotical
day, he sat in front of his computer and he logged on to a personal ad
site for the first time, ever. He told himself that it wasn't "real" and
that nothing could possibly come of it. And then......then......there
was that one post that captured his attention and made his heart smile
in startled recognition. Hope tentatively....bravely...stepped into the
light and he dared to send in just one reply to one of the many
compelling questions she'd presented. He savored the possibilities over
the next few days, taking the time to see past the intriguing words on
the screen and he responded with a small portion of his own soul.
Unbelievably, inconceivably she replied in magical ways he could never
have envisioned. Taking a deep breath, he set forth to create a world
for her that she wouldn't be able to resist, or even want to deny as her
new reality.
