I went through a lot of what you are going through with my father's
battle with cancer. When he changed pain killers from morphine to
a different type, he was much more lucid and at peace, and free of
fearful hallucinations.

He explained his decision to quit fighting the cancer by holding up 3
fingers to indicate the months that had passed since his diagnosis.
He said "I want a day off." and made perfect sense.
