yesterday I didn’t have
bus fare or 
a pouch of tobacco,
this morning I have espresso 
and Winston cigarettes.
my fishing gear
is at the ready
tomorrow I may afford
a fishing license,
when I feel better
I’ll walk to Walmart
since the Buick
is out of gas.
there is the 99 percent
and then there is me,
on the borderline 
of self-inflicted poverty,
a rare string of healthy days
with my Bon Iver podcasts
and bruised tail bone
I hobble along
successfully staying 
out of the hospital.
