while here, it's
horses blowing winter hair
in chestnut drifts o'er the yard
while birdies taking up the fluff
build their nest and thus do guard
peeping in the warming air
open wide in hungry greed
Cardinals and flitting wrens
hurrying those mouths to feed.
While robins drunk on last year's berries
wintering far from ice and snow
they will leave for northern woods
a long trip home, they soon will go.
