This is a tribute to a poet I met on a poetry site that I belong to. We have never met, but his poetry is like fine wine and beautiful music all rolled into one. I have much admiration for him.

Tribute to William

One day, not too long ago,

I sat in front of my darkened computer screen

contemplating my next poem.

When the light suddenly came on.

I was surprised to see

an orange nebulous circle of sorts

who beckoned to me.

I withdrew and imagined myself quite insane,

but a gentle hand reached out touching my arm.

Drawing me into that cyber world

I knew so little about.

We traveled for a very short distance really…

or maybe it was a long distance and I just couldn’t tell…

to a platform, of all things…of poetry.

There I saw many round balls

swaying with rhymes and rhythms

floating through the space,

all of various colors.

Magenta, meadow greens,

ocean blues, baby pinks,

black of nights and earthy browns.

I wondered where my orange came in.

I joined the circle

and all were chatting enthusiastically

when to our barest left corner

we saw sitting a circle of many colors,

glistening like fine crystal.

Its rainbow hues drew us

and as we closed in

we heard the most beautiful words.

They came forth and gently

And deposited themselves on our souls

and sifted through our hands

and our ears

(did we have souls and ears?).

Nevertheless, we stayed

determined to listen

to every last word he had to share.

This is how I came to know

a poet named William.
