LISTEN TO THE WIND SOUNDS

Listen to the wind sounds
As it pitches
And twists.
Listen to its whine
Its howl
As it turns
And tangles
And bangs.

Listen to the wind sounds
At it takes captive
The twigs and the leaves
And carries them
Within itself
To a new place
Dropping them
With no warning
Abandoning them
Moving on.
Without ceremony.

Listen to the wind sounds
Shaking the trees
And blowing the new snow
First one way then another
Lifting and
Dragging
Shaking and
Trembling

Listen to the wind sounds
As it blows across the flat lands
Then rushes
To the tree tops
Bending them low
Catching the earth
In their boughs.

Listen to the wind sounds
Sweeping
To the hills
To the mountains,
Wearing them round
Wearing them down
Over the ages

Listen to the wind sounds
Rising in fury
Then lowering
To a growl
Low and ominous
Promising to return.

Then…

Hushing to a whisper
Just for a moment.

And suddenly
With a wild surge
It rises again
Lashing out
Moving swiftly
As it screams
At the windows
Thunders at the eaves
And whistles
‘Round the corners.

As quickly as it has risen,
It falls
To a whisper
Once more
A whisper soft and subtle…

It is then that it
Whispers its secrets and
Whispers the changes
It brings.

You draw a very sharp word image of wind, and I could see and hear it
throughout, right down to the quiet, secret at the end. I don't think it needs
another thing. Remember, less is sometimes better.
