CATCHING SNOW FLAKES

I saw the child
of maybe three
or four
walking with her mother
in a purple puff coat,
ears snug inside the hood,
arm stretched upward
her hand held tightly.

She lagged
ever so slightly,
short legs double stepping
to keep up.

And just before 
I looked away,
she cast her eyes to the sky
and stuck out her tongue
to catch 
the wandering snowflakes.
