TheBanyanTree: the inauguration

This post is on my personal perceptions of the inauguration. It's *not
*about one political party or another. It's *not* about who won and who
lost. As I have repeatedly commented to friends over the years....when
it comes to the position of President of the United States, for me there
is a line of respect that I don't cross, so it doesn't matter what their
party affiliation might be. *I* still personally choose to respect the
office and all that it takes to command this nation. I did so for
Reagan, Clinton, Bush(s) and I will do so for Obama.

I remember watching the Berlin Wall come down on TV and how I let the
tears fall because I didn't think it would happen in my lifetime. I
remember watching various Space Shuttles take-off and being in utter awe
of our ability to make a previously assumed sci-fi possibility an actual
reality that I could see in person.

I embrace the wonder and historical majesty of today as well.

My fav parts....

When Obama was saying his vows and stumbled over the words (as did the
Justice).
That made him so instantly human and like a normal person that we can
all relate to. I
couldn't help but smile in understanding because his wife was gazing at
his face with such devotion, pride and understanding that this was an
extremely emotional moment for him.

Then when he gave his speech and I swear I could not tell if he was
reading it. His eyes never settled in one place as if onto a prompter,
and yet he was so fluid and eloquent. He is indeed a gifted speaker.

I had several things that I thought I would remember, but soon saw that
he said so many, that I had to start jotting down my favs to not lose
track. So one of them was his comment to the leaders of other
countries....that "Your people will judge you on what you build, not on
what you destroy." That was so incredibly powerful! Think of the money
terrorists waste on destroying that could be used to educate, feed and
build schools for their people. That one sentence so clearly shows their
priorities of selfish ambition and destruction, instead of selflessness
and creating new hope.

I also liked how he was very careful to include every faith, even
non-believers, every race, etc. Right after he recognized the importance
of firefighters, he then acknowledged the importance of "parents willing
to nurture their children". And I admired how he gave full credit to
President Bush for his cooperation and encouragement during the
transition. That was classy on both their parts.

I would love to know how they managed security. I was a bit tense when
the cannons went off. The security details and SS did an excellent job.

It was a beautiful day for an inauguration. Yo-yo Ma was a delight to
watch. Obama's children were just like normal kids, sometimes paying
attention, sometimes doing their own thing. They are adorable kids.
I can't help but grin over their excitement in their new home!

And to think that one side of his family came from a small village so
far away. America is such a unique place.

Today is a good day.
