TheBanyanTree: A story in haiku: My Sister Talks About Ike

Winds take branches down
Power flickered through the night
Loud long summer night

Smoke alarm beeps on
Wind wants to pull my flag down
Afraid pole will break

While you are at it
Why not take my dignity
Robe's over my head

Finally lost lights
No coffee for me, no, no
Showered in the dark

Home from work I came
No power, now no water
Sewer pumps won't work

Manager: "Pumps full!"
If he didn't turn them off
"We'd swim in shit, too!"

Happy for gas heater
Park manager killed my joy
No more dark showers

Pull it together
Fed animals in the dark
Drove to my Walmart

Bought water to bathe
Bought batteries for lanterns
To brush my nice teeth

The power comes on
While filling the dark lanterns
Still there's no water

Fixed up a sandwich
No DSL for email
WTF? Shoot me!

Called the ISP
On hold an hour and a half
One hundred steps more...

The water is ON!
I can see to wash myself
It feels beautiful
