June's Last Day

Is what a prayer feels like: lush, verdant, green
pungent with pollen-laden fragrance heated by relentlessly
persuasive sun courting and wooing earthbound angels
blossoms heavy with sweetness so thick you can almost feel it
on the face like a winter blanket full of seeping hot comfort and delight
shaking off the cold and dank days which chase us deep
into June, here in the northeast but now on June's last day
we can admit it's summer, seriously summer and not whisper it so
fickle gods of seasons don't snatch it from us in our secret reveries.
