My heart was broken today.
 
I was visiting a friend who is temporarily in a rehab center.  There  are, in 
that same place, a number of elderly there, living with  assistance.  There 
are also one or two who fall through some sort of  crack.  One young girl with 
beautiful long hair, roams the halls in her  wheelchair.  I stopped to say 
hello.  There was no one home.
 
It seems she, in her youth, had made some bad choices. Her family could not  
cope. and so this young thing now resides in that place. Rehab? I doubt  it.  
She is one of the others, merely there. Rail thin. Damaged. Boneless.  Wilted.
 
 As I passed by to leave the place, I paused. Did you have  dinner?  She 
shook her head no.  Are you hungry?  She shook her  head, no.  I knew the quality 
of food in that place, and so I said, I bet  you'd rather have a McDonald's 
and fries.  Whereupon, she nodded and  smiled.
 
I will bring her one on my next visit.
