My typical weekend: Strip and clean all horse stalls (four or six,
depending on which horses are in) Wash out all water and feed buckets, the chicken
waterer, and the tub for the pot-bellied pig. Wash out all dog crates and
food and water bowls. Bathe those dogs needing it the worst (since there are
nine, I don't do every dog every week, but alternate).
Hose off and sweep the pool deck. Mow, if there has not been rain for a
couple of days. I mow two or three times a week, between rains, after the grass
dries, since I try to keep 3 or 4 acres mowed.
Sweep and wash house floors. Wash a couple of windows. Clean ceiling fans,
vacuum the one carpet. Laundry, (I love clean bedding, too) Prune something,
since there are so many trees and shrubs on the place, I prune back those
needing it worst. I used to have to clean and adjust the swimming pool, too,
but now I have a pool guy for that. And, no, he isn't Johnny
Depp-look-a-alike. He's a good pool guy.
Wash the truck or leave it out in the rain. Hook at least one horse up to a
cart and see how she goes. Have a training session with one or more of the
dogs, whoever needs it worst. Check the peaches on the peach tree, and the
pineapples. (I plant the tops of boughten pineapples, and lo-and-behold, the
next year I get pineapples)
And, if I have time, I go kayakking or to the flea markets or movies, or
have friends over for a pool party.
On Sunday, I sing in the choir for two services, and after that, I chill,
call family, or take a nap.
