TheBanyanTree: Another story about an honest soul!

Bill, I know what you mean. It is such peace of mind because cars have
become very important to folks, especially when I was young and had four
young children to raise and all I could afford were older cars.

Here's a story for you. I went to buy a new(er) car after the Chevette got
so old it would not pass state inspection anymore. I had turned the mileage
over twice so it had well over 200,000 miles on it. Bob had done what he
could as long as he could to get my sticker but finally he could do no more
and told it was actually getting unsafe to drive it. After going to a place
and finding the usual sales pitch type persons, I went to the first place
they bad-mouthed. I figured if they were angry enough to badmouth them by
name that this place must be giving them a run for their money. It was
called Clean Car and a young man by the name of Joe Renzi owned it and his
sole sales person (can't remember the young man's name now) were wonderful.
I said, "Look, I need a good price, you need to make a profit so lets not
haggle. Give me the bottom line and make us both happy. They did. After
that I would call before coming, tell them what I was looking for, the price
range and the monthly payment I could afford. The bank (who knows me by
name) worked with them and all I had to do was a test drive, then after all
was fixed and dusted and cleaned, pick up the car and sign the papers. They
did everything else from registration to tags to traipsing to the insurance
company. When Joe finally sold the business, I was in a place to finally
afford a new car. Isn't that funny? The blessings of living in a small
town, I guess. My daughter who lives in Baltimore couldn't believe I could
do that until she heard a phone conversation between me and Joey. It blew
her away because in the big city buying any car, new or used is a big pain!

Sharon,
First, let me say I am not one of those men who "know" all about cars. A
few minor things I can take care of myself but not much any more. I, too,
have a "perfect" mechanic. The used car dealer I have bought cars from for
several years sent me to him the first time. I was told by the dealer that
Joe was scrupulously honest and I have found him to be so. I had an 87
Cadillac DeVille and a light on the dash came on. I took the car to Joe. He
checked and told me it was part of the smog warning system but actually had
no "real" function. He said he could fix it for about $40.00 but, if he was
me he would just drive it. He said fixing it would not make the car run any
better and leaving it would not make it any worse. He said that likely the
light would eventually go out by itself, which it did. I never did replace
the sensor that made it come on and it was still off when I got rid of the
Caddy. I have used Joe ever since and if the car doesn't need something when

I have him check it he never "fixes" it.

Still His Servant
Bro Bill
