100 (or more) birds just lifted up together from the field across the
road. They formed a tight cloud of black that flew east, turned on itself
to the west, adjusted upward, and back to the east.
They circled and wove back and forth within the frame of my window. There
was no single leader. No guide. No sound. Those in the front turned to
follow the ones in the rear - with not even a heart beat between the
movement of the westmost bird and the agreement of the birds to the east.
Each little black bird was a spot of vibration - a dark green/blue piece
of energy against the very cold, grey, dead sky. The collection of them
was a cloud of energy - clearly defined yet transparent and without
definite color. Like a soap bubble whose shape was bent and changed by
the movement of the creatures within.
Together they swooped and then they climbed. They moved as if to land
and, at the last moment, rose for more flight. When they did land, their
collective self disappeared - as if the soap bubble popped upon contact
with the ground. They wandered and pecked and hopped - discrete once
again - their bodies shiny black on the pale, muddy grass and their energy
dark green spots of life on the ever present chocolate radiance of Mother
Earth.
In a rumbly gust of energy that pulls my eyes from the papers and
keyboard, they rise into the air again - a single movement. Following the
leader. Leading the follower. Dancing on the drafts. Playing in the
currents.
100 (or more) beings connected heart to heart, core to core, move silently
and gracefully in perfect synchronization.
10 fingers connected to one body, through one brain, trip and fumble, one
over the other, struggling to press these keys to send an imperfect and
crude image from my heart to yours.
