We're a family with dogs. Bulldogs. Three of them.
I know everyone thinks their dog is cute (and it ain't so), but Bulldogs do things the average pooch doesn't.
Ferinstance.
The other night, one of the girls lay sprawled on the couch, dead asleep, snoring with gusto. As some representatives of this fine old breed are wont, she slept with her tongue lolled well out of her mouth.
Her sister, who was most surely *not* asleep, spied that outstretched pink tongue and studied it. She approached her snoozing sister and sniffed it, then sat back and watched.
"Damn," she seemed to think. "That's the gal-derndest thang I ever saw."
Again she crept upon the tongue, knowing what had to be done.
Grasping her sleeping sister's tongue in her own teeth, gently, I must say, she began to... tug.
Now, anyone with a dog has played tug-of-war. And they've seen that neck-arching rapid-jerking doggy tugging motion in action.
Tug... tug... tug-tug-tug. On her poor sister's tongue.
Here's the kicker - the nap went on, the snoring barely interrupted, until the tugger lost interest and crawled up beside her sis for a snuggle.
And that was the gal-derndest thang I ever saw.
