Oh! I get it! If I "redirect" the e-mail to The Banyan Tree, it
comes in as from the person who sent the post, not from me. So you
don't think I'm Scott Daniels, I'm sending this again under my own
heading. This is Tobie Shapiro, not Scott Daniels. Funny thing I
did.
April 2000006
It's hard to smush ten aphorisms into an e-mail and hope they
cover the ten most important things I've learned. I've learned more
that I'm older than when I was younger. My list as a young woman
would be very different: probably a lot more about mating.
Nevertheless, here is some, and not all of what I've learned, not in
any particular order:
1. It's always a good idea to know whose problem it is.
2. Be aware and pay attention. That goes further towards living a
meaningful life than any other thing I can think of.
3. Always have an alternative.
4. Never underestimate the powers of self-deception.
5. Compassion and love have saved humanity more than agression and muscle.
6. Don't make any big decisions when you're heavy in love.
7. Brains and a sense of humour will get you through most anything.
One of them is not enough. You must have both.
8. What you do is unimportant, but it is very important that you do it.
9. You might not know what you're talking about. You can always be
wrong, and accepting that gracefully, even enthusiastically is the
mark of an elevated soul.
10. Your word should be gold, even in small matters. Do what you say
you're going to do.
More comes to mind. But I got to ten. So I'm done for now.
Love,
Tobie
