OK, sorry about that. Whether they are sangers, sarnies, sammies or
sambos, they are all named after John Montagu (1718-1792), a corrupt
politician and compulsive gambler who was too busy to get up from the
gaming table. If I recall correctly, he was the fourth earl, and they
named some Pacific islands after him, which now have zip codes, and some
Atlantic ones (Zavodovski, Leskov, Visokoi, Candlemas, Vindication,
Saunders, Montagu, Bristol, Bellingshausen, Cook and Thule) which don't.
The same cannot be said for butty, piece or schnitter.
