you can actually have conversations like this when attempting to fix a piece of wood that fell out of an old oak beam in your living room:

den....(putting finger over the gouge in the beam )..." look around down there deb, it has to be somewhere....let's move the love-seat out of the way"

me....( on the hardwood floor with a flashlight....the cats are going nuts)..."I don't think so....I don't see anything that looks like a piece of wood under there." ( I don't mention the fact that I am astounded at the amount of crap that is under the love-seat...whew)

den..."wait...I see it....it's down in the register grate...let's lift that up"

We move the loveseat and lift the wooden grate out of the floor. It's horrifying to see the amount of dust, cat hair, cat toys, and milk jug rings that have found their way inside this register.....really makes you rethink your ability at keeping house.

den...(puts the beam of the flashlight on this brown cat hair covered thing) "there it is....I told you it had to be here somewhere....we'll just put a little wood glue on it and stick it back up there....you won't even know it came out"

me...(picking up the brown cat hair covered thing)...."ummm, den I think this is a Teddy Graham.....mind you...I think it's an old Teddy Graham...but I still think that is what it is. It's probably been down there since the other family owned this house. They had little kids. However, I don't think petrified Teddy Grahams can replace wood."

den..(squinking up his face)..."what the hell is a Teddy Graham?"

me...(taking my glasses off to really look at this object closely)....."wait a minute....wait just a minute....this is a cat shaped liver treat from the cat's Christmas stocking....this isn't a Teddy Graham or a piece of wooden beam....see the shape"

(I hand the liver treat to den)

Den puts on his glasses and gives it the old once over....pulls off a wad of the cat hair and holds it up to the little hole in the beam....."well, the color matches up pretty well...let me see if it fits"

Silence for a little bit
"well....okay....let me know if you need the glue or not"

We scare me sometimes.
