TheBanyanTree: solstice moon

the longest day, the shortest night
the Mead Moon over field and tree
drawing honey to the hive, dragging
water from its bed and washing
wings of owls at work afield;
proud, the full and joyful light
as if the needle's swing
would never come,
will never bring the fall to frost,
cold as cold upon the moon
that pulls the poison from the bite,
frees the howl from canid lungs,
stirs the tides of maids and men
and throws the tao
into our sight (a side in darkness,
one in light).
the light that marks the last of spring
burned in summer's fields of fire,
autumn's woeful toehold and
winter's whisper in the ring
around the solstice moon.
