Rob,
Please send your Mom a big hug from one cat lover to another. I've done
"rescue" in the past too, and still have one of the *results* of those
days <smile>. We also lost a 12-year-old cat just a few months ago - I
know how sad a time it is. He seemed way too young to die. :(
On the other hand, we still HAVE <shaking my head in wonder> a
15-year-old cat and a 21-year-old cat. Honest. I've had them both since
kitten-hood. We have been truly blessed to have them in our lives for so
very long.
This Christmas, partly as a token of our love for our recently deceased
cat, we went to the local shelter and brought home two new feline
fur-kids. Too many never find homes. We wanted to help. Are we nuts?
Gluttons for punishment? I don't know. These cats too will grow old and
die one day. Between now and then though, they will give SO much love.
It seems the least we can do.
Hugs to everyone out there tonight with an old cat ... or dog, or ...
whatever pet. Treasure your time with them. It is always too short, no
matter how long they live. It's never long enough.

>My mom called me today for the phone call that I knew was coming. Her oldest cat, the first pet cat I was ever allowed to have, was put to sleep this morning to end her suffering. She was 13, with multiple terminal illnesses.
