TheBanyanTree: Katrina

I can only imagine what it must be to sit in dread of something as alive, as
ponderous and unrelenting as Katrina bearing down on every hope cherished.
That a wrinkle over hot sands half the world away could spawn such a demon
is but the beginning of what we've pulled down on our own heads. Twenty to
twenty-five feet of water - that's higher than a two-story building. That's
what Katrina is expected to push the water above New Orleans'
already-below-sea-level streets.

This year's storms are more numerous, and more fierce than any recorded. The
glaciers and polar ice caps are melting, leading to higher, warmer seas, the
heat of which builds stronger storms. Where will all the people move to,
those who live in South Florida, and across those low-lying hurricane magnet
coastal cities?
