I just had to walk the dogs one more time tonight, or rather, this morning.
It wasn't because either of them needed to go out, but because I could hear the
surf with the windows open, the sea air felt warm and soft, and so I decided
I had to visit the beach. What better way to excuse my being out at this hour
than supposing my dogs had to go out.

Not that they minded, for they'll go for a walk any time, day or night.

There were no turtles. May to October is when the giant sea turtles come
ashore to lay their hundred eggs. I do look about if I'm out at night, just in
case, for its a very exciting thing to watch. Turtles or not, the beach is warm,
secluded, and I spot the twinkle light of a boat way out there on the horizon.
Someone shot off a sky rocket far down on the public beach. Celebrating
Mother's Day? Or just testing the ones bought for Juily 4th?

Big dog barked, Little dog, nearly blind and deaf, or simply not interested,
kept sniffing about. We walked on the wet sand about half a mile, then turned
about and walked half a mile back. Little dog found something to dig for, and
big dog, ever-alert for squirrels, kept watch.

None of us was sleepy when we got back to the house. I gave the dogs their
bedtime cookies, and I sat up and watched some dumb show on television while
doing the cross-word puzzle from the Sunday paper.
