TheBanyanTree: A Mile or Two...Depending

Out about a mile or two...depending,
at the end of an old dirt road
she lives. The cabin shy of shutters
the roof sagging slightly, door unhinged
here she dwells in silent sunbeams.

Sweet wrinkled crone of yesterday's
youth, she climbs alone the
crags of age's heights and depths for
he long ago succumbed to the rattle of death.
Her tears long dried but for those shed in dreams.

The porch rocker aimed toward sunset
fragile hands fold each day at days end
awaiting her own setting sun. Autumn's leaves
fall away from the tree of life, as the
days fall away from her memory into the late day sun.

One day the shy of shutters cabin and
the sweet wrinkled crone will depart the days together.
The rocking chair will comfort only leaves of gold.
Out about a mile or two...depending,
at the end of the old dirt road.
