Spoonoids:
We have had some weighty subjects discussed in the Tree over the last
week, with opinions
expressed on both sides of the issues. Good for us. We should be thankful
that our First Amendment rights
may be exercised in this forum.
Here is a collection of short musings that resulted from reading Tree
mail over the last few days.
It could be argued that poisonous stink frogs are entitled to advance
their cause as much as any
other creature; say, ground dwelling birds, field mice or Russell terriers.
All of them being God’s
creatures, who is to say that frogs should be discriminated against, merely
because they offend a human’s
sense of fairness, or bias in favor of warm fuzzy bunnies.
As far as parents being responsible for the crimes of their children,
this is another example of
trying to blame one person’s misbehavior on another. An individual is
responsible for his own behavior and
should be held accountable for it. However, the lawyers have created quite a
successful industry in holding
somebody else responsible for something bad that you do. You see, we need to
find anybody nearby with
Deep Pockets who may become a source of remuneration for the injured party.
And, of course, the majority
of the dollars thus extorted end up in the lawyer’s pocket.
I find it instructive to surmise that if the child had chosen not to kill
himself, but to go to school
and kill one of the bullies, his mother would not have been convicted of
failure to provide an adequate
home environment.
Every citizen in the United States is provided by the taxpayers with free
education from grade 1
through 12, which is adequate to provide him with the skills necessary to
function in society. The citizen
may make the best of this gift, or he may ignore it totally for 12 years. He
is free to choose. If the citizen
fails to take advantage of this gift and thus becomes a further burden on
society, he will reproduce a new
generation of children who are also unable to take advantage of their free
education. Luckily, there is
another taxpayer supported government agency called the Department of Social
Services. Sometimes the
DSS will place a disadvantaged child with another citizen, called a foster
parent, also known in some
circles as a Saint, and this selfless individual will guide the child back on
the track to becoming a self
supporting citizen. Unfortunately, the failures of the educational system
have overwhelmed the capacity of
the Saint system.
My Uncle Luis has a favorite saying: "Life is hard. Life is harder
when you’re stupid."
Later, John.
