Sometimes it's nice to have no purpose beyond putting words together. Today
I'm just noodling around, paying homage to some old pub songs. Yes I'm at
work, but I'm caught up with nothing left to do on a sleepy Friday afternoon.
This one is set to the tune and meter of Waxie's Dargle (or The Girl I Left
Behind Me), one my favorites...your tax dollars at work.

now here's to the lass that I kissed last
and here's to the next in line
and now a toast for our charming host
a fair maid more than fine

I am a roving lad but I'd do my best to please her
a pretty girl with a copper curl and freckled to the knees sir

now I went down to London Town
and took in all the sights
the lasses there were fine and fair
they kept me up late nights

I am a roving lad and I'd do my best to squeeze her
any pretty girl with a copper curl and freckled to the knees sir

Across the way lives Bess McVey
I thought her fine for courtin'
she wouldn't budge for she had judged
that I was fine for sportin'!

I am a roving lad but I had no mind to tease her
she's pretty girl with a copper curl and freckled to the knees sir

One day I'll catch the perfect match
and ask her for my wife
I'll change my ways and never stray
and we'll be set for life

I was a roving lad but I gave it up please her
the prettiest girl with a copper curl and freckled to the knees sir
